When does someone have AIDS?
The last stage of HIV is called AIDS. A person with HIV who does not undergo treatment usually develops AIDS. An individual is considered to have AIDS when the number of their CD4 cells falls below 200 cells/mm3. AIDS is a serious condition in which a person’s immune system is already severely damaged, which increases the chances of other infections or cancers developing.
